over 97% of the worlds breeding stock of Bluefin tuna are gone. hundreds of thousands of sharks are killed each year for the fins to make soup, global populations of cod have been fished to the point of extinction and 10 pounds of sea life is killed for every pound of shrimp harvested due to currant fishing methods and the list goes on. We as a people, do not need to eat wild caught fish. their are a multitude of farmed species that are available on the market. what we do need are healthy and vibrant oceans. I purpose a drastic "if not total" ban on all commercial fishing in the united states for a period of no less than 2 years. this will provide a brief respite on our over taxed oceans. also, provide meaningful incentives to develop clean farming practices to once again enjoy a bountiful
