Why don't we put people back to work undergrounding utility lines? RIGHT NOW the weather forecast predicts that snow will cut power to MILLIONS in the northeast this weekend. Tree falls, ice storms, tornados, car accidents, EVEN squirrels! There are ancient poles leaning precariously all over this country. Why don't we stop investing in denuding trees and cluttering our skylines with all this trash? Millions could have jobs that could not be outsourced. Materials could be American-made. The power grid that this nation depends upon is only as reliable as the next winter storm or car accident, completely open and vulnerable to devastating simple attacks: from petty vandalis to terrorism. Why not eliminate this constant threat and put our neighbors back to work?
