SInce the 1970's, Steel companies in the U.S. have been competing with foreign steel. Foreign steel (Steel companies in China and India) have significantly lower prices than domestic steel. For the last 30 years, Steel in America has dwindled. Take for example, Bethlehem Steel. From 1857-2001, Bethlehem Steel employed over 300,000 men and women. They were the 2nd largest steel company in the U.S., and now, there is nothing. Cities such as Bethlehem, Johnstown, P.A.,Sparrows Point, Maryland, etc. aren't what they used to be. I know that this has been a controversial issue over the last 12 years. They tried a protective tariff in 2002. However, that only lasted a little over a year, and exempt many countries. I have no affiliation with industry. This wouldn't benefit me. I hope to see jobs.
