This massive agreement, under the guise of a Free Trade Agreement, has been in negotiations behind closed doors for five years by officials from the United States and 11 other countries: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam. Of the TPP's 29 draft chapters, only 5 deal with traditional trade issues. Most would set rules regarding non-trade matters which affect the daily lives of millions of people: food safety, internet freedom, medical costs, offshoring of jobs, financial regulation, and more.
Our domestic policies would be required to comply with these TPP rules. While Congress, the press and the general public do not have access to the TPP draft, more than 600 official corporate "trade advisors" do. Not on our watch!
