Republican legislators in several states have been enacting new legislation related to voter I.D. laws and laws restricting early voting periods. The stated purpose is to prevent voter fraud which is almost non-existent. The net result of these new laws is to severely restrict the ability to vote among minorities, the poor, the elderly and the young. In short, those more likely to vote for a Democrat. This is a direct assault on the freedom and civil rights of a large percentage of our population and will swing voting results in the favor of Republican candidates.
