Best available estimate of deaths from flu in the US is around 6,300. Since adults may infect others 1 day before symptoms develop and up to 7 days after becoming sick, we must immediately quarantine anyone who has come in contact with anyone exhibiting flu symptoms, for the 8 days they may have been contagious. Children may pass the virus for more than 7 days, so anyone who has had contact with children with flu symptoms must be quarantined for longer time. This will of course cause huge problems, since by best estimates, we may have to quarantine a majority of our population for a week or more. What choice do we have? The population must be protected. I urge all governors to immediately take the necessary steps to protect the public, since president Obama isn’t willing to take action.
