quash the hiring requirement by the VA Health Care System that PhD and PsyD psychologists have an APA internship.

Created by C.B. on April 13, 2014

The active military and the VA health care system are overwhelmed by returning combat personnel requiring mental health care for PTSD, depression, anxiety, and adjustment. In addition to suicide, homicide and substance abuse are increased in this population. At the present time an APA internship is required at the PhD and PsyD level to provide care. This requirement has caused a deficit in available mental health care providers. If this one hiring requirement were eliminated, hundreds of additional competent and caring health care providers could be made available to our active and veteran military persons. Every community satellite clinic could staff their own mental health care providers. It's time to step up and free the system from this obstructive and harmful requirement.
