The response to the methane gas leak has been slow and inadequate.
Due to the gas leak hundreds, or perhaps thousands, of families face an ongoing threat to their health. The leaking gas also is also negatively contributing to the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at an alarming rate.
The Southern California Gas Company has not provided a clear plan to resolve the problem.
Although California Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency, it does not set aside any funds or hold SoCal Gas accountable. The federal government needs to step in to ensure swift and meaningful action is taken as soon as possible.
