The drug war has grown to out of control spending on duplicate efforts by different agencies without success. Drugs are cheaper and easier to get with more addicts than ever before. Law enforcement is rewarded for failure in a way that we have decided is improper for ineffective teachers. From all public employees we should demand to see results and positive outcomes. Instead of growing the number of government employees and budgets, law enforcement needs to streamline and earn its keep. Not just arrests and convictions, but reduction in supply and demand. Quit rewarding failure. Increases in budgets should only reward departments who show improvement in real measures of drug law enforcement success.
