This Petition provides a compromise to the longstanding controversy: Gay Marriage.
Gay couples endure scrutiny in taxes, medical aid and visitation rights, banking, adoption, and other benefits afforded to straight married couples. This is where the equality promised by the Constitution needs to be enforced. They should be allowed the same benefits as straight couples. The repeal of DOMA has rung much outrage from the conservatives of the United States. It is probable that that the biggest point of contention in that side of the controversy is that word "Marriage". Perhaps allowing for all the benefits of marriage under a name that doesn't share its religious connotations might alleviate the largest part of the controversy.
