When the Social Security Act was originally passed in 1935, the average life expectancy was approximately 62 years, and the minimum age to collect benefits was 65. However, recent medical innovations and greater understanding of human biology has led to a much higher life expectancy of about 78 years.
Seniors are collecting vast amounts of Social Security benefits. This massive collection rate now makes up for a huge part of the federal budget and contributes heavily to the growing budget deficit.
We the undersigned citizens of the United States petition the federal government to redress our grievances by raising the minimum age to collect Social Security benefits by two years each year, until the required age is slightly above the current life expectancy
