Women and girls across the globe suffer disproportionately from violence, both physical and psychological in nature. Women are subject to violence from the home, the government, and the community in which they live. This violence detracts from the education and development of women, thus putting them at a disadvantage in societies that already value them less than their male counterparts. The U.S. Government needs to make public awareness about this issue greater, and needs to petition other nations to enforce and create laws outlawing violence against women. Only then can women gain a fair and advantageous spot in society that will allow them to take part in education, government, and community building.
