Raise Awareness about the Intersex Population and the Gender Norm. By Joyce Gonzalez

I am writing this petition to raise awareness about intersexuals. Intersexuals are individuals that at birth can't be classified as a female or a male because they are born with atypical genitalia. They are typically assigned a gender by their parents and doctors, but sometimes the gender assigned does not "belong" to that particular individual. According to the Intersex Society of North America there are still cases of patients that are given hormone treatment and reconstructive surgery without their permission. These patients are usually kids that don’t have the power to impose what they want, or that have been denied information about their condition. In this petition I ask you, to be a part of ending the gender binary and protecting intersexuals right to have a say on their condition.
