The TIP (Trafficking in Persons) Office helps to combat modern day slavery, has a budget of $20 million. However, "in 2010, the Office received a record number of requests totaling over $300 million". Compare this to budget of the Department of State and USAID (including costs for Overseas Contingency Operations), which totals to $46.2 billion. While foreign aid is a large and pressing issue, 20 million dollars is far too low to help fight slavery in the US. It is up to the people to convince the government to raise the budget for the TIP office to help combat human trafficking.
