raise the federal fuel tax to a level that accounts for inflation and to use this income for infrastructure maintenance.

Created by K.L. on March 10, 2015

We request an increase in the federal fuel tax that would account for inflation from the time of its last raise (1993). This tax increase would be implemented over a 5 year span, with equal price increases quarterly, in an attempt to increase funding for national infrastructure projects. This change would allow for a significant increase in federal funding for infrastructure remediation projects without needing the introduction of a new source of income. The 5 year timeline of the price increase along with low gas prices nationwide make this an opportune time to introduce this proposal with limited social backlash. Finally, this tax increase would incentivize greater implementation and research within the alternative energy field.
