raise the federal minimum wage to $10 an hour

The minimum wage in this country has barely moved up 20% in the past 10 years yet milk and gasoline have soared over 150% on average. How can basic necessities go up by so much but yet most Americans working low end jobs still get paid the same ? I would like to think that our government is just ignorant of this fact rather than trying to make the poor poorer while the rich get richer. It is for this reason that I petition that the federal minimum wage go up to $10 an hour. While $10 an hour won't change the situation for most people struggling it will certainly help change the situation for some.
