Since the 1970's, wages have failed to kept up with production. While companies pocket record profits, and CEO's have more homes, boats, cars, and other non-necessities, many American families working for them struggle to keep food on the table. A family of four, with two working parents making $10/hr would still qualify for public assistance in many states, showing that even that bump in pay is barely sufficient. Business leaders and lobbyists will argue that raising the minimum wage will result in job cuts, but that is an old tired argument not supported by any wage increase in the past.
