In 2010 seven teens ages 16-19 died per day from motor vehicle injuries and by the end of the year, 282,000 teens were treated and released from emergency rooms for severe injuries suffered from motor vehicle accidents. Neurosurgeons say when contemplating risky decisions, young drivers show less activity in regions of the brain that regulate decision-making than adults; that part of the brain generally starts developing between the ages of 23-25. Don’t raise the age that high but make it a standard age of 18 in all US States (Federal Law) as it is in several other countries such as UK, Switzerland & Singapore. Also there is a huge difference in the actions of 18 year olds compared to 16 year olds; younger teens are more likely to underestimate dangerous situations than adults.
