Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage will get families off of government assistance and allow them to live in dignity. It will also bring in more revenue, which all helps greatly to balance the budget. And contrary to popular rhetoric, it will not hurt small businesses because most small business are already paying a livable wage. The companies that pay minimum wage are massively profitable and greedy places like WalMart and the fast food industry. Americans need jobs, not McJobs. These jobs are no longer the summer McJob for teenagers; people are trying to support families with these McJobs, and there is no excuse not to pay workers a fair and livable wage when you consider the massive profits and skyrocketing CEO pay that these companies enjoy.
