Currently the national minimum wage is far below what is needed to raise families out of poverty. The millions of workers in America that struggle to survive below the poverty level is a strain on our state and federal budgets that will only get worse, unless the minimum wage is raised to what is needed to support a family in a forty hour work week. The federal government should recognize that someone who works forty hours a week should be able to lift their family out of poverty and that the economy will be rejuvenated by the increased buying power of it’s citizens. The increase in wages will decrease the funds needed to help the poor while increasing tax revenue for both local and federal government. Empower all Americans to make their lives better.
