The Obama Administration should take executive action to raise the overtime pay threshold to $69,000. The overtime pay threshold is the salary level at which employers are legally required to pay overtime. Further, the Obama Administration should remove the exemption for "computer professionals."
The current threshold is $23,660 (below the poverty line for a family of 4) and is not indexed to inflation so has changed 1 time since 1975. In 1975 $23,660 was more than 2x the median household income. Now it is less than half.
Increasing the overtime pay threshold would improve the economy, increase middle class jobs by requiring companies to hire more workers, raise incomes for working families and reduce inequality.
