The United States is a nation of immigrants- our own ancestors were once the tired, the hungry, the world’s dreamers and adventurers yearning to breathe free. Our economy and culture have been built by the millions of people who migrated to this country to escape poverty, war and political or religious persecution.
Each year, the President and Congress put a ceiling on the number of refugees we accept. This year that number stands at only 70,000. Meanwhile, the global refugee crisis grows worse with every passing day. The U.S. has the capacity to help many more refugees than it currently does. We the undersigned call on the White House to take action and double the refugee ceiling for next year – from 70,000 to 140,000.
