The current Salary Exempt rate is approximately $24,000 per year. Salary Exempt employees are most often required to work 50+ hours per week. Raising the rate to $70,000/yr will allow more workers to collect overtime pay for the hours they work. An Employer will have to hire more workers to avoid paying overtime. Either way, changing this policy will put more money into the pockets of people who work hard for a living, which will increase the tax base for our nations infrastructure, social security, and medicare that we all pay into.
