So long as overseas labor is cheap, American businesses will continue to ship jobs there. There is no way that Americans can "win" the race to the bottom and work for pennies a day.
By raising tariffs on imported goods, prices on those goods also rise. This makes products made in America more competitive in our marketplace.
While it might make some goods slightly more expensive, more Americans will have good-paying jobs. As the economy grows and income for the working poor rises, Americans will be able to afford the new prices, giving the country sustainable growth in both wealth and quality of life.
