raise the tipped employee minimum wage to 75% of the federal minimum wage by December 31st, 2016.

Created by M.L. on November 26, 2014

Federal minimum wage for tipped employees is $2.13 an hour. After taxes, this often leaves tipped employees with a negative paycheck, owing back taxes at the end of the year. Tips are at the discretion of the customer, leaving tipped employees unable to rely on a consistent living wage.

Many are also unaware that tipped employees such as servers have to tip out other employees. This allows companies to underpay multiple employees, as they can rely on some tipped employees to make up the wages of others.

Tipped employees deserve to have a reliable hourly wage, one that at the very least will cover the cost of taxes. Please sign and support the fair payment of tipped employees.
