Raise the wage of tipped employees. $2.13/hour is an unacceptable wage for a skilled job.

Created by J.M. on March 20, 2014

Raise the wage of tipped employees from only $2.13/hour to at least half of minimum wage. It's been over 20 years since minimum pay for tipped employees has increased. It should increase as the normal minimum wage increases. These types of jobs are typically demanding and require training. $2.33 is an unacceptable wage for this type of work. Sometimes the amount of customers is limited and other times, customers do not tip the appropriate amount.
Other possible, less desirable, solutions: Heavily enforce the laws pushing employers to make up for the difference when tipped employees earn less than minimum wage on their own or make it mandatory to tip at least 15%.
