Students at colleges & universities should be investigated and handled by trained law enforcement officials.
Universities have a vested interest in pushing rapes "under the rug". Would you sent your child to a college with a high rate of rapes on campus?
Reports of rape should be referred to the local law enforcement officials. Period.
This would enable future students & their families to look up crime stats in a specific city or at a university. Currently, a conduct committee (monkey court) can give the rapist a slap on the wrist. But the rapist is not labeled as a sexual offender.
The Dept of Justice should make it clear that colleges are not to sweep this under the rug and keep their "picture perfect" images at the expense of rape victims.
