Ratify and extend the Kyoto Protocol to reduce GHG emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 and keep climate warming at 2°C.

The Kyoto Protocol was signed by the US, but never ratified. The original treaty called to reduce GHG emissions to 1995 levels by 2012 to prevent further climate warming. While developed nations, like Germany and Russia, have significantly reduced their emissions, the United States has increased GHG emissions by 7%. We urge congress to ratify the Kyoto treaty and extend the deadline to 2020. Without action, the US risks catastrophic climate change that will further effect coastal cities, ocean acidification, and disproportionately effect developing countries with extremely small carbon footprints. To save our planet and provide a livable environment for our children, we urge our congress to ratify the Kyoto Protocol and extend its deadline.
