Ratify the Basel Convention

This petition is created to stop E-Waste from being sent to third world countries as "second-hand goods" where it is burned for scrap metals such as copper, but the burning pollutes and harms the health of those around. By ratifying the Basel Convention, the United States will no longer be able to ship hazardous waste from developed to less developed countries. The United States is one of only three countries (including Afghanistan and Haiti) that have yet to ratify this treaty created by the UN. The third world countries burning this technological waste are unaware of the long-term damage it causes through toxic poisoning. Effects include cancer, brain damage, kidney failure, etc. By signing this petition, you will be doing your part in saving lives and the world.
