This action is needed both to emphasize the value of individual human lives worldwide and to give the United States greater credibility as not only a powerful but a compassionate and responsible international leader.
Refusal to join other evolved nations in explicit support of covenants such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights seriously undermines any actions we may take or support against other violators. Additionally, this type of isolationism negates the impact of extensive U.S. foreign aid and reinforces the global view of U.S. self-involvement, possibly making us more of a target in the eyes of many who seek to do us harm.
We have the potential to do greater good than any other country on Earth. We should try leading by example more than by force.
