Re-arm the veterans.

With the state of the military as it is, I suggest we make available to veterans current issue weaponry in the interest of civil defense.
This can be implemented through retraining, and examining all applicants. All weapons can be stored in local armories and local law enforcement stations. In the event law enforcement is unable to handle a crisis, or an attack on US soil, all valid veterans can be able to actively defend the people and the land.
Training will be mandatory, and evaluations will be administered to assure as little room for error in the program.
Ensuring the combined strength of all security forces will be able to meet any aggressors and provide an armed response at the first sign of trouble. An armed prior service group will be able to compliment the uniformed services.
