Military spouses should have the same re-employment rights as their service member. Many give up their jobs, lose seniority and income in moving with their service member. The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) protects service members who have left their jobs to serve in the military, for up to five years. Their pay and seniority is held until their return and re-training can be provided. It was created so the service member experiences less hardship. Spouses need this same law to protect them. They too experience hardship since many find it difficult to find a job because of constant moves. In giving up their jobs to support their service member they too are serving. Please sign this position so military spouses may gain similar rights.
