Given the current crises in our economy, unemployment, and our crumbling infrastructure, the Administration should consider reviving the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), which was so effective during the Great Depression. From 1933 to 1942, the CCC employed 3,190,393 people; built 46,854 bridges, 4622 fish-rearing ponds, 27,191 miles of fences, 204 lodges and museums, and 3470 fire towers; planted 3 billion trees, and restored 3980 historic structures (including several California missions). The nation could benefit from this help again.
