In 1956, law proclaimed that the first motto of The United States of America shall be, "In God We Trust," although this was not the motto recognized by the people of our great nation. In 1782 by act of Congress, the motto of our great seal became "E Pluribus Unum," and has been the in-facto motto from this time until 1956 and for many, it still is.
"In God We Trust," is a fine motto for any nation, however whether we like it or not our nation is not entirely made up of those that believe in a supreme being. Further, the majority of our citizens are of a Christian tradition therefore any formal declaration of God made by our Government will necessarily be associated with a Christian God.
To ensure the maximum inclusion of ALL people, we ask to restore our motto to the 1782 original.
