The United States Strategic Air Command held the line during the Cold War as an elite military command that deterred communist aggression by being able to deliver overwhelming force at a moment's notice.
SAC was dis-established in 1992 after the end of the Cold War, and its responsibilities divided up among different commands (most of them under US Strategic Command).
Now that we are once again facing Russian aggression that is currently threatening NATO partners and may directly threaten NATO allies in the near future, there is a place once again for the Strategic Air Command in the armed forces of the United States.
Diplomacy will certainly be the wisest course to pursue for the time being, but few things would provide the leverage generated by bringing back SAC.
