Re-establish water distribution to the areas of West Virginia exposed to the Freedom Industries chemical leak.

Created by J.B. on January 30, 2014

FEMA has stopped distributing water to those affected by the Freedom Industries chemical leak. The reasoning behind the cease in water distribution is related to the amount of MCHM present in the water. According to WV American Water, the amount of chemical remaining in the public drinking water is less than 1ppm. This amount, according to the CDC, is safe for public consumption. However, the CDC also recommends that pregnant women "consider an alternative drinking water source." In addition to this, the water continues to have the licorice smell of MCHM and the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department recommends that young children and those with weakened immune systems avoid the water. The effects of this chemical on humans are unknown at any level. The people of WV have become lab rats.
