Congress is an entity designed to reflect the people they represent. However, pay, medical, and other benefits are currently not representative of the people they represent.
Establishing a more parallel pay and benefits scale/system to reflect the average citizen is not only fair, but more clearly shows a congressional members choice to serve their country as the primary motivator for service. In some ways, it allows for a reduction in governmental costs as well as promotes a positive public image to the people they represent and the nation as a whole.
For example, federal employees have a pay scale that regulates pay and experience. Military personnel defend and die for our country and are paid less than many persons in congress, and also have a cap on their military pay.
