For years now it has become blatantly apparent that, while the ESEA looks very good on paper, it is not working the way it was initially intended. Many schools, afraid to lose their funding by this act, have taken it upon themselves to simply teach the test, as oppose to teaching the critical thinking skills our children need in order to excel in society. In other severe cases, schools have forced kids who aren't performing well to drop out until after the tests have been done, not to mention the lack of provisions for special needs children (requiring at least 95% of special needs kids to take the normal test).
It was a good idea, and it looked wonderful, but it's clearly not working. Our only course of action is to fix it, or let it stagnate and continue to destroy our schools
