Currently, Bladder Cancer research is allocated only $23.4 million by the National Cancer Institute, overseen by the Department of Health and Human Services. There are 10 cancers that are allocated research dollars, the top five are:
1) Breast Cancer
2) Lung Cancer
3) Prostate Cancer
4) Colon Cancer
5) Melanoma
Bladder Cancer research ranks 8th with a budget of $23.4 million. This is shameful as 74,690 new cases of this disease will occur in 2014.
My Mom was one of those new cases. She was the epitome of health: NEVER smoked, never drank alcohol, stopped drinking soda 10+ years ago, ate organic, fish, and chicken on a regular basis.
Luckily, my Mom is now cancer free. However, there will be 15,580 deaths due to this disease this year.
Mr. President and Congress, this MUST change.
