Each year deaths due to tobacco related lung disease and other cancers far exceeds the deaths attributed to firearms by the tens of thousands and cost Americans tens of billions of dollars in healthcare cost. Gun control has repeatedly failed to protect our population from evil deeds and does not address the root causes of sociopathic actions, gang violence (which far exceeds shooting spree massacres) or any of the myriad of social issues which drive people to acts of violence.
Preventing the sale and distribution of tobacco products will have a direct effect on the frequency of tobacco related cancer and cancers from second hand effects. While the states will lose $17 Billion dollars in tax revenue, the savings to Medicare alone could very well be in the tens of billions yearly.
