Re-Institute the Voting Rights Act & Stop Voter Supression

Created by E.C. on November 22, 2016

In June 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the coverage formula used for Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA), which required jurisdictions with histories of significant voter discrimination to get federal approval from the DOJ for any new voting practice or procedure. States have been passing voter suppression laws & significantly burdening eligible voters trying to exercise their constitutional right to cast a ballot. These measures include cuts to early voting, voter ID laws, and purges of voter rolls.

Investigate the role of voter suppression in the 2016 Presidential election and publicly publish the findings. Draft and re-institute Section 5 of the VRA before the end of 2019. https://www.aclu.org/issues/voting-rights/fighting-voter-suppression
