We, the people, request that President Obama institute a mandatory civil service program beginning in 2018. Following high school graduation, all young men and women in the United States will be drafted into strictly non-military service, akin to the Civilian Conservation Corps of the Great Depression. The focus will be on conservation efforts, community building, disaster relief, and humanitarian aid around the United States. It will have the following benefits for our country: beautification of our lands, creation of a work force with hands-on skills, reduced obesity rates, and higher quality of life for all. Please consider this proposal and at the least, please re-invigorate federal, volunteer-based civic programs.
