Re-name Columbus Day as Indigenous People's Day

Created by V.F. on October 02, 2015

Changing the name from Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples' Day will provide the opportunity to recognize and celebrate each other's strengths, cultures, and history. We propose to change the name of this holiday to honor the memories and ancestors of his victims and survivors. Let Oklahoma join other states like Alaska, Hawaii, Oregon, and South Dakota in making this change! This terrible man wrote in his journal about how easily he could conquer and govern the native peoples of the New World. He maimed them, murdered them, and enslaved them. He used girls as young as 9 &10 years old as sex slaves. No form of slavery or genocide should be accepted or promoted by our government. It is time to dispel the illusions of the past and progress towards a more educated future.
