On December 4, 2012, Congress was presented with the UN's Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This treaty was based on the United States' Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act (IDEA) and was just to support the rights of those with disabilities on a global scale; it would not change ANY aspect of US law.
It was turned down.
I propose we fill congress with people with disabilities- from those who are blind, Deaf, mentally ill, paralyzed, quadriplegic, those with intellectual, developmental, and cognitive disabilities. From veterans with traumatic brain injury to college students with autism, let Congress hear these parents and individuals speak and ask them again:
Will you throw our rights again a second time?
