The 1978 Airline Deregulation Act has y been an abject failure for passengers, employees, shareholders, and federal, state & local taxpayers. When four airlines control 80% share of market the losers are communities, passengers & employees
Air travel has become increasingly more expensive, inconvenient, uncomfortable, & less available
The airlines have:
Increased number of seats reducing passenger legroom
Cut seating capacity to lowest level since 1979
Instituted numerous fees, and change fees upwards of $180.
Eliminated reciprocity preventing passengers from changing airlines
Used bankruptcy to transfer $20+ bb in pension liabilities
Not, as promised, produced lower “real” fares
The de-regulated U.S. airline industry business model simply does not work
Protect the traveling public
