In the aftermath of the attacks on 9/11, Congress and the Executive got a little overzealous in trying to protect us from foreign terrorist threats. I don't doubt that they were well-intentioned, but it is also clear that civil liberties were weakened by the USA PATRIOT act. The Administration should support repeal of this act. The Bush Administration also instituted a warrantless wiretapping program that was later blessed by Congress. This, in my opinion, is a serious infringement on our Constitutional privacy rights. If Richard Nixon had the authority to do what this program did, there would have been no need for the Watergate burglers and the travesty of the Nixon campaign's dirty tricks might never have come to light. The administration should support repeal of these changes to FISA.
