While recent tragedies tear at our hearts and tempt us to make an emotional decision regarding gun control, we must not forget the reason that the 2nd amendment exists. The founders of this great nation quickly realized that measures had to be taken to ensure that our rights were protected.
Central to the protection of these rights was the Right to Bear Arms. A disarmed populace is like an eagle with no claws. It has no way to defend itself should the government or any individual decide that our rights are no longer important.
We must not let the actions of a few criminals, individuals whose actions do not reflect the values of the gun owners of this nation, shape public policy.
