Each time there is a shooting of note a cry goes out to stop the violence by controlling guns. This is a tactic that is unworkable. A more reasonable solution is to control those who commit crimes with guns. We the undersigned ask that Congress institute mandatory sentencing for criminals who use guns in the commission of a crime. We suggest a sentence of 25 years without possibility of parole for using a gun during a crime, 50 years without possibility of parole for using a gun to commit a crime where some one is injured, and life in prison without parole for committing a crime with a gun where there is a death or where a law enforcement officer is injured.
