There is an estimated 121,785 total libraries in the United States today and approximately 99,180 belong to school libraries. However, a majority of those are not fully active. In the last few years there is a reported 16% of all libraries report decreased hours of operation. This leads to 2,600 branches losing hours. This is bad for the economy, but even more so how are we to be educated if our resources are not reliable? Each school public and private should be required to have a fully active library.
