The cost of health care for Veterans and retirees if not confronted now it will soon tip the defense budget balance affecting benefits, services, and longevity of the program. I propose a study be implemented to determine the feasibility and costs savings by aligning the 21 VISN's with public hospitals. These VISN's are comprised of 120 VA hospitals, 36 Health Care Systems, and 12 Outpatients clinics thought the nation. All these facilities sustainment costs are posing a great burden to the allocated overall VA funds hence jeopardizing the current and future of the health care programs, which may prompt reductions, or even elimination of much needed services. The savings could be realized by partnering with public health care systems thought a system similar to TRICARE.
